Pilibhit is all set to face flood fury

Pilibhit: District magistrate of Pilibhit Sheetal Verma has prepared an action plan to deal with floods in the days to come. Ambulances have been ordered to remain ready to shift both man and animals to respective hospitals in emergency situations.An effective communication network between flood control posts, relief camps and the district headquarters will be maintained for ensuring quick relief and rescue operations, Saini added. Saini said these forces have at their disposal five motorboats at present.Shelter camps have been set up in trans-Sharda region for shifting of flood-affected people in an emergency.Saini said if required, Army and paramilitary forces will be called in. Every year, the district faces heavy floods by rivers Sharda, Devha and their six tributaries that inundate vast tracts of agricultural land and villages.The DM made a presentation of the plan for flood relief and rescue operations at a review meeting held by CM Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Saturday. The executive engineer of jal njgam has been directed to ensure proper operation of hand pumps with a view to maintaining availability of clean drinking water during floods.The chief medical officer and chief veterinary officer have been entrusted with duties to deploy medical as well as veterinary officers in flood-hit areas with medicines, first aid kits and the ORS mixtures.

The prime focus of the action plan was on trans-Sharda region of the district which faces the fury of river Sharda because flood-hit Nepal discharges water into this river through a man-made channel which is now called Bamni river.Giving details of the plan, additional district magistrate (finance and revenue) AK Saini said the district has been divided into five zones with a total of 34 flood control posts. Each zone will be under a zonal officer while 15 additional government officials have been assigned duties to supervise relief and rescue operations.Sub divisional magistrates and tehsildars have been directed to maintain adequate stock of rice, pulses, salt, kerosene, candles and match-boxes for flood-affected villages under their respective circles.For quick response to emergencies, officials have been told to make arrangements for boats as well as motorboats from SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) and RRF (Rapid Response Force) and PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary).
