Shahjahanpur: Fed up of her alcoholic husband who forced her into prostitution, a woman allegedly killed her husband by hitting him with a hammer on June 19 at their house at Baleli village in Nigohi block on June 19. She has been arrested under IPC section 302 (murder) and sent to district jail.Station officer of Nigohi police station Razi Ahmad told TOI, “We suspected that the victim was killed by his wife though she claimed that a local had shot him dead. But the post-mortem report confirmed that the victim died due to a head injury after being hit by a heavy object. During interrogation, she admitted to killing her husband because she was forced into prostitution by him.”According to sources, 32-year-old Neetu was married to Ompal, a potter by profession, 15 years ago at Aadampur village in Sindhauli block. The couple has two children. A few years after their marriage, they were forced to move to a house near Baleli village’s cremation ground as Ompal lost all his property due to his drinking and gambling habit. Ompal was appointed as a guard there.Unable to sustain his habit with his meagre salary, Ompal forced his wife into the flesh trade three years ago. He would also beat her under the influence.On June 19, when a drunk Ompal started beating her, Neetu lost her cool and hit him with a hammer and killed him. Later, she filed a complaint with the police, alleging that a local has shot her husband due to old enmity.
