Bareilly: Aggrieved family of a Biharipur resident, Deepak Rastogi, have approached the superintendent of police (SP), city, Rohit Singh Sajwan, alleging brutal assault of Deepak by sub-inspector (SI) of Biharipur police outpost, Virendra Singh Rana. Deepak was detained at the Biharipur outpost following a brawl that took place after an incident of harassment.According to officials, Deepak entered into a fight with Shailendra Rastogi, another Biharipur resident, after the former was reportedly found passing a lewd remark at Shailendra’s sister on September 16. Following a complaint, both Shailendra and Deepak were detained by police on September 17 during which Deepak was allegedly assaulted by Rana.“SI Rana had brutally assaulted my brother Deepak. He also hurled abuses at our mother. Shailendra and his brothers had roughed up Deepak on September 16. We have CCTV footages to prove Deepak’s innocence,” said Amreesh Kumar, Deepak’s elder brother.Meanwhile, SI Rana said, “Both parties landed up at the police outpost on the night of September 17. We received complaints from both sides and had hoped they would come to a compromise.”“We have CCTV footage of the incident. We will also verify the family’s claims. Appropriate action will be taken against SI Rana after investigation is over,” said SP Sajwan.
