BMC to erect welcome gates with ‘keep the city clean’ message

Bareilly: In an attempt to increase awareness about the importance of hygiene especially among people coming to Bareilly, the civic body has decided to erect welcome gates at various city entrances with a message saying ‘keep the city clean’. The project will give a special touch to the smart city proposal. However, we are now planning to construct welcome gates with a message saying ‘keep the city clean’.”“With problems of solid waste management, traffic congestions and encroachments, Bareilly has a long way to go before it becomes a smart city. Surveys will be conducted soon to decide the number of gates following which the work will be undertaken,” he said. So far, Swachh Bharat message has been displayed in some prominent areas in the form of wall paintings.

According to Bareilly Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, these gates will come up on the outskirts of the city on stretches like Rampur road, Nainital road, Badaun road and Bisalpur road.Speaking with TOI, municipal commissioner RK Shrivastava said, “Through this move, our aim is to make people aware about the importance of keeping their surroundings clean. The project will give a special touch to the smart city proposal. So far, Swachh Bharat message has been displayed in some prominent areas in the form of wall paintings. However, we are now planning to construct welcome gates with a message saying ‘keep the city clean’.”“With problems of solid waste management, traffic congestions and encroachments, Bareilly has a long way to go before it becomes a smart city. Through this initiative, we are trying to ensure that Bareilly makes it to the Centre’s fourth list of smart cities,” added Shrivastava.Officials said that since a large number of people enter Bareilly via Badaun road, Rampur road, Bisalpur road and Nainital road on a daily basis, the authorities have decided to erect welcome gates on these stretches so that more and more people get the message of cleanliness. However, the municipal commissioner said that the spots haven’t been finalized yet. “The roads where these gates will be erected have not yet been finalized. Surveys will be conducted soon to decide the number of gates following which the work will be undertaken,” he said.
