Bareilly: More than 20 independent candidates here, who failed to get tickets from major political parties to contest for the corporator’s post in the UP civic body elections, have now come together to form a joint front - ‘Bareilly Nagar Nigam Nirdaliya Pratayshi Sanyukt Morcha’. The candidates, all of who are Muslims, are contesting from minority-dominated wards. Likewise, they have decided to name the flyover near the Alakhnath temple as ‘Hazrat Shah Niyaz Beniyaz Shri Alakhnath’. However, I am working to ensure victory of other deserving independent candidates from other wards too.”Sabir Khan, another candidate from ward number 11 (Katra Chand Khan), said, “I had contested for the corporator’s post in 2006 with a Congress ticket but lost. Apart from engaging in my own election campaign, I have been helping others too.”

They have announced that if elected, they will pass proposals to the Bareilly Municipal Corporation (BMC) to name flyovers in the city after dargahs and temples.S E Huda, national convenor of Hudaibai Committee, which played an active role in the formation of the joint front, said, “We brought together candidates who are strong contenders in their respective wards but failed to get tickets from major parties. Our aim is to assist deserving candidates in winning the elections.”When asked why only Muslim candidates are part of the party, Huda said, “The minority-dominated wards have always been neglected by subsequent corporators. One from their own community, who knows the issues and problems better, will be better equipped to lead the people.”According to members of the front, they were in touch with a few other independent candidates to try and persuade them to join their initiative. The front may also lend support to any independent candidate who is in the fray for mayoral post in the city, the members said. The Shyamatganj flyover, which is under construction, will be re-named as ‘Shehdana Wali Sarkar’ due to proximity of the Dargah Shehdana Wali, the members said. Similarly, they have proposed to call the proposed overbridge near Satellite area as ‘Hazrat Sharafat Shri Radheyshaym Kathavachak’- a name derived by combining the Dargah Shah Sharafat Miyan and Bareilly’s renowned writer Pandit Radhey Shyam. Likewise, they have decided to name the flyover near the Alakhnath temple as ‘Hazrat Shah Niyaz Beniyaz Shri Alakhnath’. Apart from flyovers, they also want to rename the upcoming civilian airport from Nath Nagri Civil Terminal Bareilly to ‘Aala Hazrat Nath Nagri Air Terminal’.Sarvar Hussain, the sitting corporator of ward number 39 (Kakar Tola), who has joined this front, said, “I was eyeing a Samajwadi Party ticket but failed to get one and decided to contest independently.
