Man dies after falling in boiling cane juice

Shahjahanpur: A labourer at a jaggery processing unit died after he accidentally fell into a vessel where juice extracted from sugarcane was boiling on Tuesday night. Police were informed but, because of the serious nature of his burns, Inderpal was not able to give a dying statement. On Tuesday night, he had gone to answer nature’s call near the vessel when he lost balance and fell into it. Police are, however, going to charge the owner of the plant for negligence towards workers. The body has been sent for post mortem.Initial investigation suggests that the death was accidental and that Sharma was not present when it happened.

While his fellow workers claim he was under the influence of alcohol, the deceased’s family members claimed that he was beaten up and thrown into the vessel by the owner of the unit, Gajendra Sharma, and demanded an FIR against him. The body has been sent for post mortem.Initial investigation suggests that the death was accidental and that Sharma was not present when it happened. Police are, however, going to charge the owner of the plant for negligence towards workers. They said no equipment to save a worker in case of accidents was found at the unit.Additional SP (city) Dinesh Tripathi told TOI, “Investigations revealed that the victim, Inderpal, was under the influence of alcohol and that he accidentally fell into the vessel. Since the parents have alleged that their son was killed by the owner of the plant, we have sent the dead body for postmortem and will check the report before taking any further action in this case.”Inderpal (20), a resident of Bilsanda, Pilibhit, had been working at the jaggery crusher in Patrajpur village of Nigohi for the past two months. On Tuesday night, he had gone to answer nature’s call near the vessel when he lost balance and fell into it. He was rescued by fellow workers and admitted to a hospital with serious burn injuries, but didn’t survive.Other labourers took Inderpal to the local community health centre after informing the owner of the unit, Gajendra Sharma, about the incident. Later, Inderpal was referred to a district hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police were informed but, because of the serious nature of his burns, Inderpal was not able to give a dying statement.
