Draft on triple talaq not fair to Muslim women, says clerics in UP

"The apex court has "set aside" the practice of instant triple talaq or talaq-e-biddat. The Centre has now prepared a draft law which makes instant triple talaq "cognizable and non-bailable" offence.The draft law -- Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act—is likely to be tabled in the winter session of Parliament. Due to the fear of legal action, the couple will be forced to live together in a house even after triple talaq. But the Supreme Court has said that instant triple talaq is unconstitutional. "Another cleric, Mufti Afroz Alam of Dargah Aala Hazrat, said, "As triple talaq is a serious matter and the law is related to Shariat, the Centre should discuss the draft with clerics.
