People of Sarjapur, Attibele protest power cuts

BENGALURU: Some 25 resident representatives of apartment complexes and villas from Sarjapur and Attibele — who have been suffering from frequent power cuts and voltage fluctuation for the last two months — submitted a grievance letter, detailing their problems, to Bescom officials on Monday.According to residents, power supply is so irregular that their generators hardly get enough time to recharge after a power cut. They claim this is affecting nearly 2,500 families living in an 8km radius.“We don’t get three straight hours of power. A few of the taller apartment complexes, having 17-18 floors, are shelling out nearly Rs 50,000 per month to buy diesel for their generators. They need power at any cost as senior citizens might need to use the lift, and also to power the sewage treatment plant (STP). A similar problem had cropped up a few years ago,” said Joy VR, secretary of the Sarjapur residents’ welfare association.With the affected areas falling under Sarjapur and Attibele Bescom offices, assistant executive engineer Raj Kumar, in charge of Attibele, promised to solve the problem intwo days. “He said they would work on connecting the feeders to the nearest set of housing complexes to ensure proper supply.Another suggestion was to have several small WhatsApp groups with residents relying on one particular feeder so that any power cut could be immediately brought to the officials’ attention,” said Joy.
