more-in Businessman Ganesh H.K., who allegedly shot his wife to death on Thursday evening and injured two of their children the next day, has been remanded in judicial custody. The police are still trying to understand what triggered the attack. “We cannot question him. He is incoherent. We want him to to recover completely before we continue with our investigation,” said a senior police officer. On Thursday afternoon, Ganesh allegedly shot his wife Sahana in their Jayanagar house while their oldest son, 15, was at home. He then asked his son to get into the car, drove to the school where his two younger children studied, picked them up and headed to a resort in Banagiri. The next day, the police tracked him down, but by the time they caught up with him, he had shot his 12-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter. They were in the back seat of the car. In his most recent statement to the police, Ganesh claimed that the family had planned a suicide pact, as they were in debt. According to the police, Ganesh has assets worth Rs. 75 crore. He owns a resort, a coffee plantation and runs a real estate business. “But he had incurred a debt of Rs. 10 crore, which he couldn’t repay without selling his property,” said the police. Ganesh claimed that he planned to shoot his children before ending his life. “However, he changed his mind at the last minute, and instead went to the resort,” the officer added. At the resort, he allegedly decided to go ahead with the plan, but felt he should spare his elder son, who is differently-abled. “This statement is different from his initial statement where he claimed to have killed his wife as she was against him selling their property to repay his loans. He cannot corroborate his claims and he is not mentally stable,” said the police officer. “We will seek his custody once he is declared medically fit.” The two children who sustained bullet injuries have undergone surgery and are recovering.
