Woman, son arrested for killing adopted son

A 45-year-old woman and her son have been arrested by Soladevanahalli police for allegedly killing her adopted son. The police suspected the role of family members and, the call records pointed a finger of suspicion at Zubina and Roshan. Zubina and her younger son Roshan, 20, are accused of killing Basheer Ahmed, 37 — who had been adopted by Zubina’s husband after he found the orphan in his native village of Vijayapura two decades ago — and then dumping his body in Cauvery river in K.R. On June 20, Zubina and Roshan allegedly bludgeoned Basheer, who was asleep, with a cricket bat. The murder came to light when the father, Ilyas, a second-hand car dealer and a realtor, approached the police with a missing complaint.

The police suspected the role of family members and, the call records pointed a finger of suspicion at Zubina and Roshan. According to the police, Ilyas considered Basheer to be one of his children. Zubina and her four children learnt that Ilyas was planning to give money to Basheer to set up a business, and that Basheer would get a share of his property. On June 20, Zubina and Roshan allegedly bludgeoned Basheer, who was asleep, with a cricket bat. They put his body in a car and drove to K.R. Pet. Zubina told Ilyas that Basheer had not returned home from work. A day later, Ilyas filed a missing person’s complaint. Police have remanded Zubina and Roshan in judicial custody.
