Case against telecom firm for ‘damaging’ newly asphalted road

The Madivala police have booked a case against a telecom company which had allegedly dug open and damaged a newly asphalted road in BTM Layout to lay fibre optic cables without obtaining permission from the authorities. In his complaint, Shariff, the engineer, said the company used heavy earthmoving equipment to dig the road in BTM Layout. He alleged that the company had not taken permission from the BBMP. “We have summoned representatives of the company for questioning, following which necessary action will be taken,” a senior police officer said. Based on the complaint filed by an Assistant Executive Engineer of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the police have registered an FIR against Bharti Airtel under Section 427 of the Indian Penal Code.
