"Porn should be banned online to protect kids"

BENGALURU: No pornographic material should be available on the internet to protect children, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi said at an event on Saturday. “The government has to adopt measures to take porn videos away from internet users, and every data provider has to be brought under the rules. Such videos have led to child sexual abuse cases,” he told STOI.Satyarthi was taking part in the golden jubilee celebrations of Christ deemed-to-be university. We may have conquered Mars, but haven’t been able to reach out to our children who are becoming victims of sexual abuse and trafficking. India has the DNA to do globalisation of compassion across the world.

Such videos have led to child sexual abuse cases,” he told STOI.Satyarthi was taking part in the golden jubilee celebrations of Christ deemed-to-be university. “All institutions of faith must ostracise its members who are child abusers. I keep telling religious leaders that their influence is much bigger and they must use it to protect the rights of children in the country,” he said.On the need of an anti-child trafficking law, he said it has been pending with successive governments for many years. “It has been cleared by the Union cabinet, but yet to be tabled in Parliament,” he said.“Social transformation does not happen through laws or policies until we build a youth movement to make India safe for children. We may have conquered Mars, but haven’t been able to reach out to our children who are becoming victims of sexual abuse and trafficking. India has the DNA to do globalisation of compassion across the world. The need of the hour is to act against human trafficking and stop children from being sold,” Satyarthi said.Erstwhile Mysore royal family member Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, former minister Ramalinga Reddy and Fr Thomas C Mathew, vice-chancellor of the varsity, attended the event.
