BENGALURU: The nightmare at Nayandahalli junction is only getting unbearable by the day. The intersection of Mysuru Road and Outer Ring Road sees at least one lakh vehicles every day, testing motorists’ patience. Though nearby roads have been asphalted in patches, potholes continue to grow bigger and deeper, thanks to the ongoing Metro work and monsoon.“There are days when I am stuck in the junction for over one hour. Negotiating potholes while riding a bike makes it look like a tightrope walk,” said Ravi M, a resident of Rajarajeshwari Nagar, adding: “Traffic congestion due to Metro construction is compounded by the poor condition of roads.”Last year, a woman riding pillion on her son’s bike was killed after she was thrown to the ground when he was negotiating a pothole at the junction, and came under the wheels of a truck coming from behind. Agencies, however, continue to blame each other over the bad quality of roads.Heavy vehicles used by the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to ferry construction material is the main cause for the bad roads, BBMP officials said. But when the BBMP doesn’t create proper roads, it becomes difficult for us to fill potholes,” he added.BMRCL officials said all potholes near Gopalan Arcade Mall, Rajarajeshwari Arch and Nayandahalli will be filled up immediately.
