Gang chops sandalwood tree in army premises

An armed group of men chopped down a sandalwood tree in the high-security army base workshop in Halasuru on Sunday morning, but fled when their presence was discovered. The Halasuru police have taken up a case under various sections of the Karnataka Forest Act and are trying to track down the men. Subedar M. Suresh, in charge of the workshop, filed a complaint with the police stating that a patrol team saw that the tree had been chopped. They alerted the police.
