MESCOM worker electrocuted in Mangaluru

While they were lifting pole to put into in the pit, the end of the pole came in contact with the high-tension wire. Incident took place around 10.30am. Immediately, locals who were present at the spot, took the injured workers to hospital. The contract work was undertaken by Thanvi Electricals.Locals alleged that incident took place due to negligence of MESCOM, who did not shut off power of high-tension wire before taking up the work. Ganesh succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.An official from MESCOM said that injured Dinesh, Vishwanath, Anand, Gopal, Krishna, Dhananjaya, Padmanab and Mohan were treated at hospital.

MANGALURU: A contract worker of MESCOM was killed and eight others were injured after they came in contact with an 11kv high-tension wire near Maravoor bus stand on Wednesday.The incident took place when the contract workers were installing a new electric pole for a low-tension line adjacent to a high-tension line.Police said victim Ganesh (53), a resident of Ganjimutt, along with others were erecting electric poles. They had dug a pit for installation a day in advance and on Wednesday morning they were ready to erect the pole. While they were lifting pole to put into in the pit, the end of the pole came in contact with the high-tension wire. Incident took place around 10.30am. Immediately, locals who were present at the spot, took the injured workers to hospital. Ganesh succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.An official from MESCOM said that injured Dinesh, Vishwanath, Anand, Gopal, Krishna, Dhananjaya, Padmanab and Mohan were treated at hospital. He added that two of them have received severe shock and being treated at MICU. The contract work was undertaken by Thanvi Electricals.Locals alleged that incident took place due to negligence of MESCOM, who did not shut off power of high-tension wire before taking up the work. It is learnt that MESCOM has ordered an inquiry into the incident as it was a case of negligence.A case has been registered at Bajpe police station in this regard.
