Vijay Raj and the others were booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code including molestation, outraging the modesty of a woman, voluntarily causing grievous hurt, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation. The complainant slowed down to let them pass, but the men slowed down too and followed them for two kilometres, all the while passing lewd comments about his sister. He stopped the bike and confronted Raj and his friends who allegedly assaulted the complainant and his friend.

The alleged incident took place around 9.30 p.m. on July 11 on Velpuru main road. The accused, Vijay Raj, is on the run after the police refused to withdraw the case. “Their mobile phones have been switched off,” said a police officer. The complainant works as a property manager in a real estate company. Last Wednesday, he, along with his sister and a male friend, were heading to Madura Nagar on a motorcycle. According to the complainant, Raj and three other men started following them on two bikes. The complainant slowed down to let them pass, but the men slowed down too and followed them for two kilometres, all the while passing lewd comments about his sister. He stopped the bike and confronted Raj and his friends who allegedly assaulted the complainant and his friend. When his sister tried to intervene, she was allegedly slapped. The complainant claims that the attackers tore her clothes. His friend sustained a fracture on his leg. The trio headed lodged a complaint in Whitefield police station. Vijay Raj and the others were booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code including molestation, outraging the modesty of a woman, voluntarily causing grievous hurt, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation. According to the police, the next day, the complainant approached them with a request to withdraw the complaint, as Raj’s family had apologised for the incident. “However, given the gravity of the offence and the fact that it is a molestation case, we are going ahead with our investigation. An FIR has been registered,” said a senior police officer. "We have zero tolerance in cases related to attack on women and children.”
