more-in The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set on constructing two bungalows — one for the Mayor and another for the Commissioner. The civic body had first made this announcement in the 2018-19 budget and had set aside ?5 crore for the same. Highly placed sources in the BBMP confirmed to The Hindu that sites for the two bungalows have been identified. While the Mayor’s bungalow is most likely to come up in Gandhinagar, near Freedom Park, the Commissioner’s bungalow will be in Austin Town, Shanthinagar, near the Ambedkar Statue. Sources said that the civic body had sought a report on the sites from the zonal joint commissioners. “Both plots belong to the BBMP. The joint commissioners have been asked to look into the feasibility aspect as well,” said a source. Sources also said that construction of these bungalows will take time. “The budget was only recently approved by the government. The BBMP, after getting the report from the zonal commissioners, will have to get the detailed project reports prepared. Following this, the job codes have to be generated and tenders floated,” a source said. Mayor R. Sampath Raj said, “These bungalows will be assets of the civic body. Each bungalow will have three bedrooms, a state-of-the-art conference room, a visitors’ lounge and parking. The locations were chosen after a lot of thought. Since both sites are in the city centre, they will be accessible to councillors from any part of the city,” he said.
