more-in A 19-year-old girl was killed on the spot and her sister was injured when a concrete mixer truck knocked down the scooter they were riding, near Lalbagh on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Preethi, a college student and a resident of Cottonpet. Her sister Lavanya, 29, who was riding the scooter, sustained multiple injuries and was admitted to a private hospital. According to the police, the accident occurred around 7.30 a.m. when Preethi and Lavanya were on their way to Lalbagh for a morning walk. When they were on Krumbigal Road, the truck driver, in a bid to overtake them, knocked down the scooter, according to the police. Eyes donated Preethi fell down and came under the wheels of the truck, while Lavanya fell on other side. The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot soon after the accident. A few passers-by rushed both the sisters to a nearby hospital, where Preethi was declared “brought dead”. Preethi’s family donated her eyes to an eye bank before the post-mortem. The V.V. Puram traffic police seized the truck.
