Bowring club locker: I-T sleuths search bizman’s house, offices

However, they only yielded broken racquets, Tshirts and shoes. BENGALURU: Income tax sleuths probing the case pertaining to property documents worth Rs 500 crore and other assets valued at Rs 14 crore found in three lockers of Bowring Institute have expanded their search to various properties belonging to real estate businessman Avinash Amarlal Kukreja , to whom the assets allegedly belong.Sources in the I-T department said the officials continued their search operation through Saturday night till Sunday morning at the residence and offices of the businessman. The searches are believed to have resulted in seizure of incriminating documents.What intrigued the investigators was the fact that the lockers where the cash, jewellery and documents were stashed away were not allotted to any member of the club, lending credence to their suspicion of complicity of club staffers.“We are investigating the case from all possible angles.

The seized items include documents and wealth,” BR Balakrishnan , director general of income tax (investigation) told TOI.Investigators are also probing possibilities of money laundering and FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act) violations.Other clubs under scanner?Other elite clubs where Avinash, who is also a tyre dealer, is a member are reportedly under the income tax scanner now and searches are expected at these establishments anytime soon.
