Gopalakrishna Adiga, filmmakers G.V. These articles, which were serialised in Mayura, a Kannada monthly 25 years ago, were a big hit. The work shows that the author had mastered the art of extracting details about personalities and their socio-cultural backgrounds. It contains the word-portraits of Veena maestro Doreswamy Iyengar, Kannada icon Dr. Rajkumar, poet K.S.

These articles, which were serialised in Mayura, a Kannada monthly 25 years ago, were a big hit. The book is now being brought out to mark the ninth death anniversary of Venkatalakshmi. Aharnishi Prakashana of Shivamogga is bringing out this 326-page book. It contains the word-portraits of Veena maestro Doreswamy Iyengar, Kannada icon Dr. Rajkumar, poet K.S. Narasimhaswamy, theatre personality Master Hirannayya, cricketer E.A.S. Prasanna, Bharatanatyam guru U.S. Krishna Rao, novelist S.L. Bhyrappa, scientist C.N.R. Rao, Kannada activist Ma Ramamurthy, poet M. Gopalakrishna Adiga, filmmakers G.V. Iyer, Puttanna Kanagal, N. Lakshminarayan, Hindustani classical singer Basavaraj Rajguru, photo journalist T.S. Satyan and musician R.K. Srikantan, among others. The work shows that the author had mastered the art of extracting details about personalities and their socio-cultural backgrounds. Her husband, H.N. Shama Rao, says, “She used to visit the homes of well-known personalities and speak to their wives to understand a big name from a different and intimate perspective.” Venkatalakshmi, who served in the Information Department of the Karnataka government, also brought out a magazine Charchegondu Chavadi (for private circulation), and wrote extensively and regularly in various Kannada publications. Her published works include Baduku, Bavane Bharavase, which won the Karnataka Sahitya Academy award. Noted writer Jayanth Kaikini will release the work and critic B.N. Sumithra Bai will speak about it. The book is being released at G.V. Auditorium, Jayarama Seva Mandali, Jayanagar 8th Block, at 10 a.m.
