Criminal case for video recording proceedings in HC

  • | Wednesday | 22nd August, 2018

Video recording the proceedings of a case using a mobile phone in the Karnataka High Court proved costly for a person on Tuesday as the court initiated a contempt of court proceedings besides directing the registrar-general to register a criminal case against him in accordance with law. Anil Jain, a resident of Jayanagar, was found video recording the proceedings related to a litigation when an advocate, representing his brother, was arguing before the court. Though Mr. Jain claimed that he is the brother of a litigant in the case, the advocate said that he had neither met or seen him before. Mr. Jain told the judge that he was not aware that photography or videography is not allowed inside a court building. After seizing the mobile phone, the court said that the conduct of Mr. Jain amounts to obstructing proceedings and issued direction to its registrar-general to verify the recorded content in the phone and initiate criminal action against him.
