Drunk men unleash fists of fury over Hindi, Kannada

And smoking in public even more so.Ramesh, a 28-year-old resident of Belimutt Road in Bakshi Garden learnt it the hard way on Saturday night when he was smoking at a tea stall near his house. The trigger was simple – two men brushed against him while he was smoking – but the impact was huge. Ramesh ended up with multiple stitches. All because of languageOn the fateful night, Ramesh had stopped at a tea stall near Adi Narayana temple around 11.30 pm on his way home. He got himself a cup of tea and lit a cigarette, when two men speaking inbrushed against him. One of them apologised to him and said sorry. Ramesh, already under the influence of alcohol, asked why they didn’t know. Unfortunately for him, the men were also drunk and it turned into a fierce argument, with Ramesh punching one man in the face. The men threatened Ramesh and left the spot.Before he could stub his cigarette out, the duo returned – this time with a group of five to six friends carrying cricket bats, hockey sticks and blunt objects. One man asked Ramesh why he had beaten his men. Again, Ramesh got into an argument but this time it was he on whom the blows landed.The men attacked him and Ramesh sustained serious injury on his face. He started running but was chased down and hit on his head several times. Profusely bleeding by then, Ramesh managed to give them the slip and reached home.His family took him to St Martha’s hospital on Nrupatunga Road for treatment. “I have four injuries on my head and couple on my face. There is a fracture on my nose, I don’t even know how many stitches doctors have put on my head,” said Ramesh. “They brushed against me without reason and got into a fight. When they were attacking me, a policeman was passing by, I called out to him but he did not hear me. I have lost my mobile phone and a gold chain in the attack,” he added.Cottonpet police registered a case on the basis of a statement from Ramesh. “We have arrested two men. One is Amar, the owner of Punjabi Dhaba in Balepet and the other is Rishi. The duo have been remanded into judicial custody and sent to Parappana Agrahara Central prison,” said an investigating officer. “Ramesh has a few cases against him and he is a repeat offender in Cottonpet police station limits. The victim and attackers were all under the influence of alcohol when the incident happened,” he added.
