Lessons from Germany to help cybercrime cops

He said cops will be trained and provided necessary resources to deal with cyber criminals “A delegation, of which I was a part, visited Germany to study how they deal with cybercrime in that country. “Those who complain about traffic problems have to consider this factor too,” he said. While most of them have been arrested for visa-related violations, including overstaying, 28 are facing drug-peddling charges.

Later, a German police team visited Bengaluru and shared its experiences with us. We will strengthen the cybercrime police wing,” Parameshwara said, adding that IT giant Infosys, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), is helping the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) develop a special software for the purpose.According to sources in the police department, Infosys is committed to strengthening the cybercrime wing, for which it has earmarked Rs 100 crore. “About Rs 10 crore has already been released for the cyber lab at CID,” one source said.While Infosys has helped set up the lab, experts from the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) will help train police personnel. Once trained, these personnel will not only work on crime detection — ATM frauds, internet-based crimes, hacking of bank accounts, et al — but will also help prevent attacks on government websites and other assets.Parameshwara said the government will soon deport 107 foreigners arrested by Bengaluru police and currently lodged in prison. While most of them have been arrested for visa-related violations, including overstaying, 28 are facing drug-peddling charges. “We have sent the list to the ministry of external affairs; they will be deported once we get the MEA’s permission,” he said. In August, police conducted a special drive, during which they raided multiple houses where foreigners were overstaying.54 lakh cases, Rs 5.5cr in finesAs of September 12 this year, traffic police have registered more than 54 lakh cases of traffic violations and collected fine of Rs 55 crore, the deputy CM said, adding the number of vehicles registered in the city has reached 75.6 lakh (till June). “Those who complain about traffic problems have to consider this factor too,” he said.
