BTC to decide fate of 11 members on Saturday

The 11 members include four former chairmen of the club, and six officials. They have been charged with alleged irregularities during 2016-17 by a five-member special enquiry committee headed by former IPS officer P. Kodandaramaiah. Expulsion has been recommended under Article 16 of the Articles of Association of the BTC. Sources in the club said that two of the members have moved the local court against action to be taken. “The meeting has been scheduled for Saturday evening. Members could be expelled only if two-thirds of the members present at the meeting vote in favour of the motion,” a senior club member said. The total membership of the club is 350. Among the 13 issues that the special committee probed included the communication with the then chief minister Siddaramaiah by the then BTC president N. Harindra Shetty and the government nominated member of the club’s committee H.S. Srikanth, and the alleged doping of a filly besides demolition of a heritage structure in the club premises. While the EGM is scheduled for Saturday, the club will also be electing a new committee on Monday during a scheduled annual general body meeting. Meanwhile, sources said that a CID inquiry into the alleged irregularities that the earlier Congress government had ordered is yet to be completed. The Siddaramaiah government had ordered the inquiry after the then government nominee Mr. Srikanth petitioned the government against the club’s affairs.
