BENGALURU: A 41-year-old homemaker set herself ablaze on Thursday after her husband scolded her for not making tasty curry DJ Halli police arrested hair stylist Nagaraj for abetting the suicide of his wife, Jayalakshmi. Hailing from Raichur in North Karnataka, Nagaraj and Jayalakshmi settled down in Bengaluru in 2008; Nagaraj ran a hair saloon at Shampura, DJ Halli. They have two children.Jayalakshmi’s parents accused Nagaraj of torturing their daughter over petty issues. “He would throw tantrums every day, saying she didn’t know how to cook and how to look after the children or him,” the parents told police.Nagaraj, who returned home for lunch on Thursday afternoon, abused his wife for making tasteless curry, the parents said. In the evening when Nagaraj was at his saloon and their children were playing outside, Jayalakshmi allegedly doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze, police said.Angry with his parents over not preparing a non-vegetarian dish and their refusal to take him to a folk dance performance, a 10-year-old boy committed suicide in Kalaburagi’s Sedam taluk on Thursday.According to police, Ramdas Raju Rathod made several requests to his mother to prepare the dish. But she said she couldn’t spend time in the kitchen as the family had plans to visit a neighbouring tanda to watch a dance recital. She is believed to have told the boy that it was a toss-up between cooking and the event.Police said the boy, who was in tears, pleaded with his parents to take him to the event, but to no avail. Once the parents stepped out in the evening, the dejected boy committed suicide by hanging himself in their house in Venkatapura tanda in Sedam taluk at the night.
