more-in Residents of Panathur Road and Kadubeesanahalli held a silent protest on Sunday to highlight the danger the accident-prone area poses to motorists and pedestrians. A 12-year-old boy died last week when a water tanker rammed into the motorcycle he was riding pillion. Residents are now demanding better traffic regulation in the area. The protesters claimed this was the second road accident fatality in a year on the stretch. Several non-fatal road accidents have been reported on this stretch, they said. “A security guard was fatally knocked down by a water tanker on the same road about a year ago,” said Hitesh Kesariya, who was among the protesters. He blamed bad road and ineffectual traffic management for the accidents. “Water tankers and trucks speed on this road, posing a risk to both pedestrians and motorists. We want the traffic police to enforce better regulations here,” he said. Shweta Agrawal, a resident of Panathur Road, said the road was pothole-ridden and pavements were broken, making it difficult for anyone to negotiate this stretch. “The road is in a pathetic state near New Horizon School. The footpath is broken too, leaving pedestrians with no option but to walk on the road. There is no road divider either, making traffic regulation a challenge.” She added that it was a busy road with several offices, apartments and schools, and it needed urgent attention from the authorities. A traffic police officer said the road was too narrow, which had led to challenges in traffic management. “Panathur village has water scarcity and hence a lot of water tankers ply here. Problems are arising because of the narrow road,” the officer said.
