Karnataka: Night long rains drench Bengaluru

Basement of apartments in JP Nagar of South Bengaluru also got flooded. This has sent fear waves for residents in the apartments located nearby. Muddy waters entered apartments and other residential units here.

BENGALURU: Showers through the Sunday night and Monday morning have brought misery to several parts of Bengaluru with areas in South and West worst affected. Hulimavu lake in South-West Bengaluru and storm water drains nearby overflowed flooding layouts in the downstream. Muddy waters entered apartments and other residential units here. Staff from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike got into relief operations after the rains took a break.Bhagyalakshmi Murali, corporator of Arakere ward under whose jurisdiction Hulimavu lakes falls in, said the flooding of the layouts adjacent to Hulimavu lake is more due to incomplete drain works. "Lake is full for sure. But the flooding is due to damaged Raja Kaluve and other drains attached to the lake. They are not in a position to hold rain water. I have made several appeals to BBMP administration to fix the problem but there has been little progress," she added.Meteorological centre, Bengaluru, has recorded a rainfall of 53 mm till 8 am of Monday for the city. "Rain or thundershowers very likely for the next few days," said an official from the department.Mysore Road stretch between Nayandahalli and Kengeri, where Namma Metro construction work is going on, witnessed 4 km long traffic jam on Monday morning. Vehicle users had to wade through muddy waters that had entered the busy road stretch during the peak hour.A stone wall adjacent to the service lane of the Outer Ring Road near Vidyagiri Layout of Nagarbavi in West Bengaluru collapsed and part of the road also caved in nearby. This has sent fear waves for residents in the apartments located nearby. Basement of apartments in JP Nagar of South Bengaluru also got flooded.
