LS polls: Verification of EVMs begins

The district administration has started verifying Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines for the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2019. The Lok Sabha elections will see VVPAT machines being used in all polling stations, as a response to the allegations of EVM tampering, he said. A total of 5,225 ballot machines and 4,276 VVPAT machines will be used for the elections to three Lok Sabha seats in the district. Vijay Shankar, Deputy Commissioner, Bengaluru Urban, said the first-level checking to verify the machines had begun on Monday. “Based on the directions of the Election Commission of India, we are allowing political representatives to witness the verifications,” he said.
