BENGALURU: Two more H1N1 deaths were reported in the state on October 15, taking the toll to eight.On Tuesday, the health and family welfare department updated its Influenza A (H1N1) data, and stated that 542 cases have been reported across Karnataka.A 58-year-old man from Ullal in southwest Bengaluru, who was admitted to the staterun Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases on October 11, died on Monday. “His case was serious. We tried our best. Though we had started treating him for H1N1, his reports came positive only around 9.30pm on October 15, after his death in the morning,” said Dr C Nagaraj, director of the hospital.The other deceased person was from Ballari. Official data shows 18 positive cases were registered in the state on Tuesday. Of this, 10 were reported from Bengaluru city. In all, 86 cases of H1N1 have been recorded in Bengaluru this year and two of the patients succumbed to the disease.Host ward-level meetingsWith an increase in H1N1 cases in the state, Jawaid Akhtar, principal secretary, health and family welfare department, has issued to a circular, stating that awareness campaigns have to be conducted across the state.District health officers have been asked to organise such meetings and sensitise public on the preventive measures and hygiene aspects associated with the virus infection.3 of family die in a monthDakshina Kannada district has seen in a spurt in H1N1 cases, with a family in Bantwal taluk accounting for three deaths in the past month.All three were from a family at Sajipanadu in Bantwal . During treatment in a Mangaluru hospital, she delivered a baby that died in six days. Doctors ruled out influenza, but Zubina had tested positive for H1N1.
