The KIA started operations in May 2008.In accordance with the agreement, the HAL airport has been closed for commercial operations since May 2008.Since the closure of the airport for commercial flights, the PSU has been looking at reviving the airport and have also brought to the notice of the civil and defence ministries that the assets at the airport could be used for commercial flight operations.However, talks between the two are still on to find operationally and financially viable alternatives for the airport to reopen.“Giving an NOC would have meant that commercial flights too could have been revived this was reason it was turned down,” sources added.
