Engr turns conman as visit to job mela in vain

Mohan from KR Pet taluk turned a conman after he failed to get a job, police said.Ravi Kumar, 24, a mechanical engineer from Koppal, attended a job mela organised by the state government at the National College Grounds on September 30. He said he worked at the CM’s office and offered Ravi a job at Toyota Kirloskar if he’s ready to pay Rs 20,000. Soon, Raju went missing and his phone remained switched off.This prompted Ravi to file a complaint with Cubbon Park police.

BENGALURU: A 26-year-old mechanical engineer , who claimed to be employed in the chief minister’s office and cheated a youth of Rs 5,000 after promising to get him a job, has been arrested. Mohan from KR Pet taluk turned a conman after he failed to get a job, police said.Ravi Kumar, 24, a mechanical engineer from Koppal, attended a job mela organised by the state government at the National College Grounds on September 30. The mela was inaugurated by chief minister HD Kumaraswamy. Ravi Kumar submitted his resume to several companies at the mela, but did not land a job.At 1.35pm on October 2, Ravi got a call from a person who identified himself as Raju. He said he worked at the CM’s office and offered Ravi a job at Toyota Kirloskar if he’s ready to pay Rs 20,000. When Ravi told him he could not afford to pay such a huge amount, Raju alias Mohammed agreed for Rs 5,000. Ravi borrowed the money from his friends and gave it to Raju near Vidhana Soudha. Soon, Raju went missing and his phone remained switched off.This prompted Ravi to file a complaint with Cubbon Park police. After he visited all the stalls, he realised there was not much demand for mechanical engineers. As he was in need of money, Mohan pretended to be a recruiter and collected some resumes. After returning to Kikkeri, he began contacting job aspirants over phone. Claiming to be employed in the CM’s office, he offered to get them jobs in return for money,” police said.Mohan hoodwinked at least two job aspirants and collected Rs 11,000 from them. He is in judicial custody now.
