Apolice constable allegedly raped a 27-year-old after entering her house while she was changing. The constable had been harassing the woman, a home guard, for the past fortnight and her complaints had fallen on deaf ears.But the most chilling part is what he did after – he splashed the woman with water to wash away evidence of the crime and then threatened her that he could use his knowledge of the law to turn the case around.The woman has lodged a complaint with the North division police and a case of rape (IPC 376), sexual harassment (IPC 354A), stalking (IPC 354D), house trespass (IPC 448) and criminal intimidation (IPC 506) has been registered against constable Chandrashekar.The woman had been working as a home guard at thecampus and Chandrashekar was posted at the Jnanabharathi police station. Chandrashekar initially approached her on November 2. Since both the police and the home guards work in tandem, the victim had no reason to doubt him, she later told the police. Initially, he offered to drop her at her residence and subsequently took her mobile phone number.But within three to four days, she learnt about his intentions as he started talking dirty to her. The woman said she stopped taking his phone calls once she realised his true colours but he kept her calling her.“On Friday around 8.15 pm, while she was in her second shift duty, the policeman is alleged to have misbehaved with her by outraging her modesty. When she managed to overpower him and warned him, he is alleged to have told her that being in the police department it was easy for him to make it look like that he was innocent. The victim then reported the matter to her in-charge officer who on Saturday complained to Chandrashekar’s boss, the inspector of the Jnanabharathi police station.“When the inspector questioned the constable, he is alleged to have claimed that he was innocent; he said that the woman herself would make calls on his mobile phone. After counselling both the suspect and the woman, the inspector is said to have asked them to delete the phone numbers of each other from their respective phones. While the suspect’s phone was checked, he is alleged to have saved the victim’s number in the name of Karthik,” said an officer who is investigating the case.After the counselling session, Chandrashekar intimidated the woman and allegedly boasted of his powers saying nothing could be done to him. The woman then went for her shift and returned home at 9 pm.“While she was changing her uniform, there was a knock on the door. Assuming that it was her husband, the woman opened the door; the constable then forcefully entered her house and reportedly raped her.“After raping her, he allegedly splashed water on her and also threw some money at her. He left her saying that he will make it look like she invited him to her house for money,” the officer added.The woman then informing her seniors about the incident and also filed a police complaint.“The constable has not yet been arrested. We are verifying the facts. The woman has filed a complaint in the Nandini Layout police station,” DCP (North) Chetan Singh Rathor told Mirror.
