Temple tragedy: Hosps scramble to handle rush

While 10 ventilators were reserved for Kollegal patients (there are 13 at the government hospital), JSS Hospital reserved five, Apollo Hospital eight and Shantaveri Gopal Gowda Hospital three. Additional deputy commissioner T Yogesh said patients have been rushed to different hospitals across Mysuru.Health authorities contacted private hospitals in Mysuru and within minutes, they reserved ventilators. Of 13 ventilators available at KR Hospital, 10 are being used for patients from the temple.Dr Dinesh spoke to Jayadeva Hospital for possible alternative arrangement. Authorities at Columbia Asia Hospital informed authorities they have kept ventilators on standby.

MYSURU: Ambulance sirens kept wailing at KR Hospital for more than two hours when patients were rushed from Kollegal in Chamarajanagar to Mysuru when their condition deteriorated after eating at the Kichguth Maramma temple event.Apart from doctors and ward boys, security personnel pitched in to shift patients who had consumed veg pulav at the event.Soon after getting an alert from Chamarajanagar officials, KR Hospital authorities, including incharge superintendent Dr Dinesh and district health officer Dr Basavaraj, rushed 10 ambulances to the spot and made arrangements at the hospital. Those in the Casualty Emergency Ward were shifted to other wards and the ward was exclusively reserved for the temple patients.The patients from the temple and other hospitals in Chamarajanagar started streaming in and each ambulance had four to five patients. Jagadish, supervisor, called upon all 60 ward boys and other staffs to pitch in.Patients who had to be put on ventilators were sent to private hospitals: KR Hospital made arrangements for ventilators as the number of patients who required them were more. Hospital officials, after bringing it to the notice of their seniors, shifted a few patients to JSS Hospital.Dr Basavaraj, District Health Officer, said, “We also brought medicines from other health centres and hospitals. We instructed JSS Hospital and Apollo Hospital to provide treatment to patients without any delay and the expenses will be borne by the government.”The Mysuru district administration arranged Artificial Life Support (ALS) ambulances to extend immediate medical care to victims and to shift them to hospitals for better medical care on Friday.
