B'luru: Conned of Rs 2 lakh, woman ends life

Venkatamma borrowed Rs 2 lakh from moneylenders and paid Tara the advance. Venkatamma was in dire need of money and agreed to donate her kidney.As per the agreement, Venkatamma had to pay Tara, a member of the gang and also her neighbour, Rs 3 lakh as commission. The latter refused to return the cash and evaded Venkatamma’s queries on the kidney donation.Hounded by the moneylenders, Venkatamma jumped into a tank and committed suicide. MANDYA: A 40-year-old woman committed suicide after being allegedly hoodwinked by kidney racketeers in Mandya’s Malavalli on Wednesday.Venkatamma, 48, a street vendor was allegedly lured by the gang who offered her Rs 30 lakh for one of her kidneys. Villagers alleged a kidney-racket gang is trying to lure gullible donors with promises of huge returns for a kidney.

MANDYA: A 40-year-old woman committed suicide after being allegedly hoodwinked by kidney racketeers in Mandya’s Malavalli on Wednesday.Venkatamma, 48, a street vendor was allegedly lured by the gang who offered her Rs 30 lakh for one of her kidneys. Venkatamma was in dire need of money and agreed to donate her kidney.As per the agreement, Venkatamma had to pay Tara, a member of the gang and also her neighbour, Rs 3 lakh as commission. Venkatamma borrowed Rs 2 lakh from moneylenders and paid Tara the advance. After some months, Tara demanded more money from Venkatamma. Meanwhile, Venkatamma was under pressure to repay the moneylenders. She asked Tara to return the advance she had paid her. The latter refused to return the cash and evaded Venkatamma’s queries on the kidney donation.Hounded by the moneylenders, Venkatamma jumped into a tank and committed suicide. Villagers alleged a kidney-racket gang is trying to lure gullible donors with promises of huge returns for a kidney. Police have launched a manhunt for Tara and her gang. A case has been registered in Malavalli police station.
