BENGALURU: In what is the biggest haul of foreign currency at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), customs sleuths nabbed an Indonesian carrying a whopping Rs 2.1 crore worth of notes on Friday night.The seizure included 14 types of foreign currency notes, mainly US dollars, euros and pounds.
His check-in luggage was retrieved and an inspection revealed large sums of foreign currency packed in black plastic covers hidden between the clothes.
This is the the highest seizure of smuggled foreign currency so far at the KIA, added customs sources.Customs officials seized the smuggled currency notes and further probe is underway into its source, mainly its Bengaluru connection.
An AIU team combing inside KIA and profiling passengers, zeroed in on him as his activities raised suspicion.Soon the team intercepted and questioned the man.
He checked in his luggage and was heading towards other security procedures.
