He was told that his car’s windshield had been shattered.Ghatage and the attendant went back to the car and he realised that not only had the windshield been broken, a laptop kept in the car had been stolen too.When Ghatage inquired with the security officials of Taj MG Road, they informed him that they had not seen anyone damage the car or stealing the laptop.Ghatage then filed a complaint at the Halasuru police station.Ghatage toldMirror: “The security officials of Taj MG Road were sorry about the incident and I’m not blaming them for it. When I entered the hotel in the morning, parking was full and I had no other option but to give the car key to the valet parking guy. He parked my car on a small road behind hotel Conrad Bengaluru (which is also close to Bazaar street).Noticing the laptop bag inside the car, I’m sure the miscreants would have broken the windshield to steal the lap top. This is a first for me. I work in a software company and I attend conferences at hotels all the time. But I’ve never become a victim of a theft.”One of the police officials from the Halasuru police station told BM, “The miscreants are yet to be traced. We are verifying footage from CCTVs installed on the surrounding roads. The car was parked on a small road, where there are no CCTV cameras.“Deputy Commissioner East, Rahul Kumar said, “The investigation is on but we are yet to identify the miscreants. They will be arrested soon.”A spokesperson from the Taj MG Road Bengaluru said, “We have provided full support to the guest and are cooperating with the authorities in this matter.”Meanwhile, in the light of the rise in laptop thefts from cars, police have advised citizens not to leave laptops inside their cars or make sure they’re well hidden.In less than a month, Bangalore Mirror has reported three laptop thefts, all three in busy areas of the city. On January 18, a sales executive from a private company had his laptop stolen in the busy Jayanagar 9th block flower market when two strangers diverted his attention by telling him that he had dropped some money. When he bent down to pick up the 10 rupee notes, they stole his laptop placed in the car.On January 20, two men who had gone to have dinner at two different food and beverage outlets on 27th Main, HSR layout. When they returned to their cars, they found their windshields broken and the laptops that were kept inside, stolen.On February 7th, it was the turn of a techie who had given his car to the valet parking attendant of a hotel on MG Road. Miscreants broke the windshield of the car which had been parked by the valet on a road and stole his laptop which was left in the car.
