Frequent power cuts exasperate residents of B'luru

BENGALURU: Unscheduled and frequent power cuts lasting hours on end this week have left residents across Bengaluru fuming. They maintained that due to sufficient power generation, no loadshedding or scheduled power outages have currently been imposed in Bengaluru. While we are used to outages and unscheduled cuts during summer and plan accordingly, we’re now coping with them in mid-February itself. They claim the outages are getting more frequent by the day.Data available with Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) show how more than 30 unscheduled power cuts were recorded across the city till 3pm Thursday, while over 50 power outages were recorded on Monday.Residents from several areas said there were power cuts ranging from one to six hours on Thursday. Residents of Parangi Palya, Sector 1 HSR Layout said the disruption began at 6.30pm Wednesday and continued well into Thursday afternoon.“@NammaBESCOM Hi There are no lights in sector 1 HSR Layout from yesterday 6.30 PM. It's almost 24 hours. We have done multiple complaints but there is no response on same. Can somebody reach out to me for same,” tweeted Sourabh Jain on Thursday.Nitendra Singh Thakur, a resident of Vinayaka Nagar, Sector 6 HSR Layout, pointed out that power supply was disrupted for more than five hours —from 10am to 4pm on Thursday.“Sector 1, HSR Layout was in the dark for more than four hours. Bescom said it was because of regular maintenance. It should inform residents if unscheduled power cuts are going to last for a long time so that people can plan accordingly,” said Anusha H, a resident of HSR Layout.On Thursday, MM Palya, Hosapalya, Yellukunte, Ambedkar Nagar, Hosur Main Road and Bommanahalli experienced six-hour outages. leaving residents fuming.While areas like HKP Road, Calon Hill Road, Cockburn Road and surrounding areas, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, ITI Layout, MM layout Madinanagar and Rajanakunte experienced five-hour power cuts on Thursday, Hoody Circle, Graphite Road, ISRO Compound, Krishna Temple Road, 80 Feet Road, Kaveri School, Eshwara Layout and LB Shasthry Nagar recorded four-hour power cuts.Bescom officials cited faulty cables, tripping feeders and maintenance as causes for the power cuts.According to officials, ongoing Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) work in areas like Hoody Circle and Graphite Road are also responsible for long power cuts in these areas. They maintained that due to sufficient power generation, no loadshedding or scheduled power outages have currently been imposed in Bengaluru.
