BENGALURU: Videos showing long queues of people waiting for ticket counters to open at Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) surfaced on social media early Sunday morning, with visitors pointing out how the online ticketing service too has been temporarily closed.“@bannerghattazoo it’s 9.40am and the ticket counter is not yet open. Do you guys have any sense of responsibility? Online ticketing is also not working. Shittiest service in Bangalore (sic),” tweeted Kuber Chaurasiya, a visitor. The BBP’s website showed how the authorities have displayed messages about the unavailability of the online ticketing service. ‘Online booking facility is temporarily not available. Temporarily, bookings have been closed. To buy tickets, please visit park,’ reads the message. As per official timings, the zoo, butterfly park and boating area inside the park are supposed to be open to visitors from 9.30am while the grand safari begins from 10am.BBP authorities pointed to test runs of a software integration between the ticketing and scanning systems at the park, being conducted on weekends, as a possible reason for the delay in opening of the counters.“Till now, only the ticketing software was being operated. We are now trying to implement a scanning system and integrate it with the ticketing one. Trial runs are currently being carried out and this could be a possible reason for the delay in opening of the counters. The LAN cabling network at the zoo also underwent a revamp on Saturday, which could also have caused delay. Usually, by 9.15am, staff are stationed at allotted counters which are opened by 9.30am,” said BBP executive director Sanjay Bijoo.“We had tried rolling out this integrated system three months ago. However, there were some hiccups. We are now running test runs during weekends when there is heavy rush at the zoo to test the efficiency of the system in handling heavy loads,” he added.
