The police have charged her for exploiting a trafficked person, causing grievous hurt, kidnapping a minor, forgery and also under theA complaint was filed in February 2018 with the KR Pet Town police by a woman claiming that her grandson who was studying in ainhad gone missing. He had visited her in her village some days earlier and left for Bengaluru. However, he could not be traced after that. In October 2018, a person from her village brought a transgender person to her presence and informed her that she was her grandson, who had undergone a sex-change operation. Another police investigation began.The advocate for Dr Anita Patil sought anticipatory bail from the HC. He contended that nobody forced the boy and he had undergone the surgery on his own wish. He had also misrepresented to the doctor that he had attained the age of majority.The government advocate opposed the bail to the doctor. He argued that the victim was a minor when the operation was conducted on him and it was illegal. The victim had also contracted HIV during the operation. The doctor was involved in the scam along with others and had created fake documents to overcome legal lacuna, it was argued.The HC, however, found it right to grant bail to the doctor. It said, “Upon going through all the material, it can be seen that there are no overt acts alleged as against the present petitioner.Under such circumstances, that too when already charge sheet is said to have been filed, I feel it just and proper that by imposing some stringent conditions, if the petitioner is enlarged on anticipatory bail, it would meet the ends of justice.”
