3-yr-old kidnapped and sold for Rs 1.5L, rescued

Probe revealed the driver had sold the boy for Rs 1.5 lakh to a woman, Radhamma, a resident of BEL Layout.Police managed to trace Radhamma by Sunday night and rushed to her native place in Mandya district. The abductor gave Rs 20 to Mounesh and asked him to bring juice from a nearby shop. Soon, the couple approached Girinagar police and lodged a complaint.Police collected CCTV footage from the spot and zeroed in on the suspect. The police team spent the night in a village near Maddur and detained Radhamma in the morning.

BENGALURU: A three-year-old boy, who was abducted by an autorickshaw driver and sold for Rs 1.5 lakh to a woman, was rescued by Girinagar police on Monday morning.The driver had spent only Rs 20 to abduct Bhagesh, third son of mason Channappa Basappa and Devamma, a domestic help in D’souza Nagar near Girinagar.The boy was kidnapped when he was playing with his elder brother Mounesh, 5, at 11am on March 14. The abductor gave Rs 20 to Mounesh and asked him to bring juice from a nearby shop. Mounesh went to the shop and returned to find his brother being taken away by the miscreant in an auto.Mounesh desperately ran behind the auto, but in vain. Alerted by him, Devamma contacted her husband. Soon, the couple approached Girinagar police and lodged a complaint.Police collected CCTV footage from the spot and zeroed in on the suspect. Probe revealed the driver had sold the boy for Rs 1.5 lakh to a woman, Radhamma, a resident of BEL Layout.Police managed to trace Radhamma by Sunday night and rushed to her native place in Mandya district. The woman had taken the boy to a temple to perform puja. The police team spent the night in a village near Maddur and detained Radhamma in the morning. The boy who was with her was brought to the police station by Monday noon.“The boy looked very scared and was weak as he hadn’t had proper food. We summoned his parents and sent him with them,” an officer said. Police said Radhamma got married 14 years ago but did not have a child. The abductor is a brother of Radhamma’s friend. He apparently promised her that he’d arrange for a baby if she is ready to pay. Radhamma agreed to pay him Rs 1.5 lakh.“We’ve detained two persons and efforts are on to nab the driver. We have definite clues about him,” police said.“We are grateful to police for bringing my son back,” said an elated Channappa.The case was cracked by a team headed by Girinagar police inspector Siddalingaiah CA, who was recently honoured by state police chief Neelamani N Raju and police commissioner T Suneel Kumar for saving a teacher from being slaughtered and donating blood to her.
