Elevated corridor: 'Public consultations important'

BENGALURU: Chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday assured representatives of various citizen groups who are demanding the cancellation of the controversial elevated corridor project tender that his government won’t move ahead with the plan without public consultations “The chief minister has magnanimously agreed to hold wide-ranging and open public consultations on the issue of mobility itself, including the proposed elevated corridor project before proceeding any further in the matter,” said a press release from Citizens For Bengaluru, which is spearheading the movement “The CM himself said that public transport is his priority and that he wished to develop Bengaluru as a high quality liveable city. He also mentioned that he is not committed to any one project or the other but that he is clear that this crisis is an opportunity for him to leave a legacy for a sustainable Bengaluru for many decades to come,” the release added.It may be recalled that on March 16, over 2000 people representing over 60 civic groups had gathered near Gandhi Statue on Race Course Road as part of #TenderRadduMaadi protest, demanding public consultation on the elevated corridor project.
