BENGALURU: Police have formed three special teams to nab the founders of the co-living startup, Homigo Realty Pvt Ltd, in connection with the Rs 15-crore fraud. The three IIT-Kanpur alumni, who took their clients, flat owners and their own employees for a ride, are on the run.Besides registering complaints against Homigo, the victims are lodging police complaints against each other: the clients are accusing their flat owners of discontinuing supply of essentials like electricity and water, while the owners want their properties vacated and the startup’s employees are accusing the tenants of abusing and harassing them. The racket blew up after some flat owners, who had tied up with Homigo, did not receive their rents and began pressuring the tenants to vacate the co-living spaces and the latter approached police.Twenty-three clients of the firm filed separate complaints with Bellandur police on Sunday, alleging that they had been cheated of nearly Rs 1 crore. The 23 clients had been housed in Sairam Residency, Iblur on Sarjapur Road. Police said after speaking to Homigo’s employees, they have estimated that the size of the fraud to be Rs 15 crore.Seemanth Kumar Singh, additional commissioner of police (east), said several cases have been registered against the firm and its founder directors at Mico Layout, Bellandur and Jeevan Bhima Nagar police stations.“We’ve formed three teams to nab Jatin Mutruka from Punjab, Akash Varma from Uttar Pradesh and Nikunja Bateja from Chandigarh, founder-directors of Homigo. Teams have been sent to the accused’s places and to contact their family members. We’ll nab them soon,” Singh said. The trio set up the company on June 22, 2015 and it was mainly into renting out own and leased properties, especially in southeast, east Bengaluru and Whitefield.“We warned flat owners of criminal cases if they cut power or water supply to tenants. We told them it will be illegal as they have a contract or rental agreement with Homigo. They have been asked to wait till we nab the suspects,” said a police officer.
