Dharwad building crash: Judicial probe demanded

The police should take action against the HDMC officials who are responsible for the tragedy, he demanded.He also demanded the district administration and the civic body to conduct a survey of weak buildings. There should be a mechanism to check the quality of the under construction and newly constructed building, he said.The officials should visit the buildings before issuing CC to the owners and check the quality of the building. And it was given a partial completion certificate by the HDMC.

HUBBALLI: Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar demanded a judicial inquiry into the building collapse incident which happened in Dharwad.He visited Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital here on Thursday and inquired the health conditions of those who sustained injuries in an under construction building collapse incident happened in Dharwad on Tuesday.He said the district administration has already announced a magisterial inquiry into the incident, but the problem was that the magisterial probe would not yield any result as the investigation officer would be junior cadre officer and he probably will yield to any external pressure. " I urge the government to order for judicial inquiry by a sitting high court Judge and the judge should be provided help of experts in the field of construction and engineering," he said.Shettar also demanded that the state government should announce compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the kith and kin of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh to 3 lakh to those of injured based on the nature of the injury. The government should immediately hand over the cheques to the family members and model code of conduct would not apply to this, he said.The former CM also blamed Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation for the disaster.
