Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan sweeps its way forward

MANGALURU: The 16th shramadan of Ramakrishna Mission’s swachhata abhiyan’s of the 5th phase was carried out in Pentland Pet area between Mannagudda and Urwa market on Sunday. First team comprising of NSS students of KPT cleaned the footpaths, roadsides and adjoining drains towards Urwa market.

MANGALURU: The 16th shramadan of Ramakrishna Mission’s swachhata abhiyan’s of the 5th phase was carried out in Pentland Pet area between Mannagudda and Urwa market on Sunday. Dr Sacchidananda Rai, president, Mangaluru chapter of IMA and Dr Prashant jointly flagged off the campaign. Dr Rai said, “Cleanliness plays important role in our lives. One who gives importance to cleanliness in his life leads a healthy life,” he said.Dr Prashanth said, “Along with cleaning the outer surroundings it is important to awaken and change the mind-set of the people.” Swami Ekagamyananda, convener of the abhiyan, Ganesh Karnik , former MLC, Kishore Kumar, Surendra Nayak, Umaparasad Kadekar, Kavitha Shastri , Andrew Rodrigues , Dr Nandita Pai, Subraya Nayak, Madhuchandra Adyanthaya, Mehboob Sab and many others took an active part in the shramadan.Under the guidance of Swami Ekagamyananda, four teams were formed. First team comprising of NSS students of KPT cleaned the footpaths, roadsides and adjoining drains towards Urwa market. Volunteers removed heaps of garbage lying on the roadside and cleaned the area. Uday K P and senior volunteers cleaned the drains in the area. Students of Besant College removed overgrown weeds and grass from Matadakani road.Third team of volunteers cleaned the Pentland Pet Circle and Gandhinagar roads Students of Nitte Physiotherapy College distributed handbills creating awareness by visiting many households in Gandhinagar area. Several direction boards in the city have faded. Ramakrishna Mission under Swachhata abhiyan identifying such boards repainted them including boards at Mannagudda Gandhinagar 7th Cross, Matadakani Road.The mission organised several jan sampark abhiyans in different parts of Mangaluru urging households to manage their wet waste by using pot compost method with demonstration. Till date, about 3000 people have registered their names for the same. Till date about 700 pots have been distributed. The Ramakrishna Mission will distribute pots to others who have registered their names in the days to come.
