BENGALURU: A 28-year old man, who allegedly murdered a security guard, was shot at in both legs when he tried to attack the policemen who were out to nab him.The suspect, Rajendra alias Benki Raja alias Psycho Raja of CK Palya on Bannerghatta Road, has been hospitalised.Preliminary probe revealed Raja had accosted Lingappa Davalgi, 62, a security guard at Karnataka Bank’s Kadirenahalli ATM kiosk on Uttarahalli Main Road on March 24, with the intention of stealing the latter’s money. When the security guard refused to give him cash, Rajendra bludgeoned the former to death with a stone and made away with valuables and a mobile phone.Deputy commissioner of police (south) K Annamalai said, “Rajendra is addicted to ganja and he murdered the security guard to rob his money and valuables. The accused killed an innocent man to arrange money to buy ganja.”A special team led by Kumaraswamy Layout police inspector Hajaresh Killedar was formed to identify and nab the accused. Police went through CCTV footage sourced from cameras near the ATM kiosk and identified Raja.On March 28, he struck again by attacking construction labourer Chand Pasha at an under-construction building in JP Nagar and escaped with the latter’s cellphone. Pasha, who suffered a head injury, is undergoing treatment at a hospital.Meanwhile, police learnt about Raja’s movements based on signals from Davalgi’s mobile phone and rushed to Double Road in Konanakunte around 4:30am.However, Raja retaliated by throwing stones at the police team.Cops then fired one round in the air to warn him, but when he continued to attack, they shot at and injured him in the legs. “None of the policemen was injured in the incident,” said an officer.
