Earlier, Section 144 was in place from 6 pm on 31st December to 6 am on 1st January.

The prohibitory order will remain in force within the limits of the city on January 1, according to Bengaluru police’s notification.

“In view of the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the limits of Bengaluru city and the emergence of a new strain of the disease abroad, it is absolutely essential to enforce all preventive and precautionary measures to contain the spread of the disease in Bengaluru city... In order to prevent the spread of the disease, certain restrictions are required to be imposed during the forthcoming New Year`s celebrations for the safety of citizens,” Kamal Pant, Bengaluru Commissioner of Police, said in the order. 

Advance reservation coupons for pubs, bars
"`No-man` zones will be created at MG Road, Church Street, Brigade Road, Koramangala, and Indiranagar; only those with advance reservation coupons for pubs, bars, restaurants will be allowed," said the senior police officer.

Pant further said that people can hold celebrations within the premises of residential colonies but no special events like musical nights, shows will be allowed at malls, pubs, restaurants, and clubhouses.

Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai yesterday said organising large parties at public places will be prohibited on New Year’s eve.

So far, a total of 1,766 people who arrived in the state from the UK, have been tested of which 27 are positive, 1,384 are negative while reports of 355 others are awaited.
