US automaker Tesla Inc. has booked a seat at a Bengaluru facility of flexible office provider Awfis to register its India office said two people with knowledge of the deal.

The single-seat is taken at Awfis’ 30,000 square feet facility on Lavelle Road. Last week, citing disclosures with the ministry of corporate affairs, the electric-car maker had registered its India office, Tesla Motors & Energy Pvt Ltd, in the Karnataka capital.

“Tesla has taken just one seat with Awfis for the registration purposes. There is no one from the company who operates from there now,” said one of the people.

Any decision on taking a larger office space will likely come only after it finalises the India plans that are expected to include a research and development centre and a manufacturing or assembly facility.

"The carmaker is currently evaluating the offers given by the various state governments,” said the person, adding that the company would announce its plan to set up an R&D office only after a decision is made on the manufacturing hub.
