BENGALURU: A six-year-old boy, Santhosh, who underwent a surgery in a private hospital in the city, died late on Friday . Santosh, who was diagnosed with a lump-like growth in his nose, underwent surgery at Annayya Health Care in HSR Layout.The boy didn't wake up after surgery and was comatose, following which he was taken to St John's Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.D Nithyananda, the boy's father, has lodged a complaint against Annayya Health Care, accusing it of medical negligence, and his relatives allege that an overdose of anaesthesia may have led to complications. Sources said the boy suffered acute blood loss during the surgery.DCP-South East M Boralingaiah said: "We have registered a criminal case and will investigate."Santhosh lived with his parents, D Nityananda and N Mageshwari, in Ejipura. Nityananda, who runs a coffee stall near Koramangala, was inconsolable as he waited for formalities to be completed at St John's Hospital. According to the police first information report, a copy of which is with STOI, five doctors -Dhanaraj, Hariharamurthy , Wasim, Soumya and Anuradha -took Santhosh into the operation theatre."For the past three months, Dr Dhanaraj was treating Santhosh for difficulty in breathing due to a growth in his nose. Although the doctor had earlier said the problem could be cured with medication, he told us last month that our son needed an operation," Nityananda said."We were asked to come prepared for surgery on Friday and were asked to pay Rs 40,000, of which we paid Rs 10,000 in the morning and the rest was to be paid by (Friday) evening. But by evening, they had killed our son," Nityananda said. Santhosh's grandfather Venugopal said the boy was taken into the operation theatre around noon."At 4pm, we were told the surgery was successful but we were not allowed see him. By 5.30pm, we were told that his oxygen intake was declining and he should be taken to a bigger hospital with an ICU as Annayya did not have one," he said.The family rushed him to a superspecialty hospital in the vicinity. Repeated efforts to contact hospital authorities failed.Not the first timeIn February 2013, Shirish Lokesh, 3, was taken to Annayya Health Care after he complained of toothache. The dentist recommended root canal treatment and the child was administered anaesthesia.The doctor later told the boy's mother that the boy had suffered a cardiac arrest. Shirish was shifted to a Jayanagar hospital where he died. A case of medical negligence was registered by the Karnataka Medical Council against the dentist, Dr Raviraj G A, and anaesthetist Dr Raghavendra.In October 2013, KMC suspended both doctors for a year.
