BENGALURU: As civic agencies gear up to revive Bellandur Lake , hoping to meet the National Green Tribunal 's a one-month deadline, they are still confused about their roles. And that's not helping the cause. While the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is the owner of the lake and was mandated to fence it (see photo), the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been directed to ensure that no garbage is dumped around the lake and also to prevent sewage from entering the stormwater drains. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewarage Board (BWSSB) has been asked to ensure that sewage from apartments and industries are stopped and a common sewage treatment plant is set up.However, all three agencies claim they haven't received the final NGT order yet and co-ordination between them is yet to take off.BWSSB chairman Tushar Girinath said, "We're yet to receive a copy of the final order. The information we have is only through the media. We cannot speak of what we are supposed to do until the work is divided among us by the ad ditional chief secretary coordinating with the agencies regarding Bellandur."Stating that the agency is aware of its capabilities and limitations, he added: "Until we get orders from the nodal officer, we cannot start anything." A dditional chief secretary of urban development department Mahendra Jain , who is co-ordinating with the agencies and effect changes the National Green Tribunal has asked for, said: "We do not see any difficulty in working with the agencies. All stakeholders will have a weekly meeting and several co-ordination mechanisms are in place to undertake the work and adhere to the order." Meanwhile, BBMP chief engineer (Mahadevpura zone), Parameshwar said, "We have already started installing about 10 CCTV cameras around Sun City Apartments near the lake. We have to be vigilant about people dumping waste. This will help us spot those dumping waste." When STOI visited the area, there were no cameras. The BDA has been told to fence the lake for over a year, but work has been continuing in patches. It has started to fence areas which were incomplete.
