Man arrested for cheating women using matrimonial sites

The man is accused of befriending women on matrimonial sites and cheating them of money after promising to marry them. “He started cheating women as he did not have money. The Bagalur police received a complaint from a woman that a man had cheated her of money after promising to marry her. A man who is suspected to have cheated over 100 women in Bengaluru and some parts of Karnataka of their money landed in police net a few days ago. After interacting with a woman for a few days, he would express a desire to marry the woman.

The Bagalur police received a complaint from a woman that a man had cheated her of money after promising to marry her. After investigation, the police team nabbed Sadath Khan alias Preetham Kumar on June 21. A case has been registered in Bagalur police station under six sections of the IPC including cheating, criminal intimidation and outraging modesty of a woman. During interrogation it was found that Sadath Khan had cheated many other women. He used to befriend spinsters and divorcees through matrimonial websites and identify himself as a government employee. After interacting with a woman for a few days, he would express a desire to marry the woman. “He would take them out and make them spend money. He also borrowed large sum of money under different pretexts from them,” said a police officer. When the Bagalur police started collecting information about him, they found that several cases had registered against him in K.R. Puram, Jayanagar and Vidyaranyapuram police stations in Bengaluru and in other districts too. “He keeps changing names to cheat women. He did his schooling in Hassan and pursued his ITI course in Siddeshwara College, Hassan in 2007. He is an alcoholic and was thrown out of the house by his father,” said a police officer. He came to Bengaluru in 2011 and started working in a welding shop in Yeswanthpur. Later, he worked as a telecaller in various companies in the city. He was dismissed these companies for misbehaving with women, the police said. “He started cheating women as he did not have money. Very few women have registered cases against him,” added the officer.
